                           COMMENTARY

The man in Romans 7 practiced evil.

Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20  idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties,
21  envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

The man in Romans 7
practiced sin. That means there are only two possibilities;
1; The man in Romans 7 is unregenerate, or...
2; The Bible contradicts itself.
Since we know that #2 is impossible, #1 is true.
Therefore, unless God saves him he will ~NOT~
inherit the kingdom of God. Anybody who says he -will- is for sure not a Christian.

John 3:20  For everyone practicing wickedness hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, that his works may not be exposed.

The man in Romans 7 was practicing wickedness. Therefore he was a hater of the light and did not come to the light, because such people cannot come to the light unless and until God saves them.

John 5:29  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done [practiced; same Greek word]  evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

The man in Romans 7 practiced evil. Therefore, unless God saves him he shall come forth unto the resurrection of damnation.

Rom 1:32  who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.

The man in Romans 7 was practicing such things. Therefore he was worthy of death.

Objection; Ah-h you heretik. Everybody including Christians are all worthy of death.

Answer; False! That's right folks.. Christians are no longer worthy of death because Christ has taken their sin and died for them. Therefore because of His Atoning death all the elect are worthy to be saved.

2Th 1:5  Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

2Th 1:11  Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

Rev 3:4  Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Rom 2:1  Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judges another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.

Rom 2:2  And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practise such things.

Rom 2:3  And reckonest thou this, O man, who judgest them that practise such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

The man in Romans 7 practiced such things. Therefore he was under the judgment of God.

Rom 2:25  For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep [practice; same Greek word] the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

The man in Romans 7 did not practice the law. He was a breaker of the law. Therefore he was in uncircumcision, which is to say he was not a Christian. He was unregenerate.

Php 4:9  And what things you learned and received and heard and saw in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Did Paul here mean that he wanted people to practice the sin he was supposedly practicing over there in Romans 7? What insanity! Either Paul wanted people to follow him in sin or Romans 7 is describing an unregenerate person who is trying to find acceptance with God by the works of the law.

Anybody who says this poor chap was -Not- an evil-doer is blind!

Even tho it is true that unregenerate man can 'recognize' and even desire, or will to do that which is good, like the Rich Young Ruler, since he does all this from a fallen condition it still is nothing but sin. This is because such a man's ultimate design is to establish his own righteousness. That's what the fellow here in Romans 7 was trying to do.

One more point. The Apostle John said this...

He that commits sin is of the devil;..... 1John 3:8

The Greek word for "commit" is also in Romans 7 vss 15, 16, 19, 20 and 21. It means basically "to do".  I marked the English here in verse 19 above with > < marks showing where it is used. Here I  quote vs 15...
Ro 7:15  For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate,  >that I do<.

The
>that I do< is the same Greek word in 1John 3:8, 'commit'. There it is usually understood as "practicing" because the form is participle and no one wants to say a Christian is of the devil when he sins. So it is proper to understand the idea of "practice" by this word. And at least 4 translations translate "practice".

The one practicing sin is from the Devil,...  ALT
The one practicing sin is of the devil,...  LITV
He who practices sin is of the Devil,... MKJV
the one who practices sin is of the devil;... NASB

Furthermore, the context of Romans 7:14-25 shows clearly that the man is indeed practicing sin because the language is clear that that is all he -can- do. In other words, he cannot stop sinning and everything he does is sin. Therefore, since he is doing ~Exactly~ what the Apostle John says anyone who does is of the devil, that means the man in Romans 7 14:ff is ~Of the Devil~!
