COMMENTARY
Jo 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
How can a person who is sinning 24/7 claim to no longer be in bondage to sin?
If a person is sinning 24/7 how is it then that he is ~not~ the bondservant of sin?
Paul says the Christian is free from sin's power. Therefore sin
has no power over us. verse 9. That means we now live a life that
is marked by an absence of sin. This is ~not~ sinless perfection
because Christians can still sin and in fact do. But they do not make
a -Practice- of sin. When they sin they confess,
repent, get back up & keep on goin. In a word, they stop sinning.
In other words, whereas sin was the norm, the beginning, middle &
end of life, it now is no longer the norm but is the exception.
Those who believe that Sanctification means you must constantly
be struggling against the 'old man' cannot get that from this verse
because the Greek tense is Aorist which is past. The KJV incorrectly
translates as "is"... presently being crucified. But the force of the
Greek means the Christian's old man -Was- crucified while the rest of
the passage teaches it is dead and buried. How can something that is
dead & buried still somehow be alive? But that's what all the
"progressive sanctification" people believe. That's right
folks... I'm saying that "progressive sanctification" is false
doctrine! There are no "degrees" of holiness. You either holy or you
ain't.
