                             COMMENTARY

If one is a -servant- of sin what now becomes of the notion of "free will"?

The tense here is past tense... you -were- the servants of sin. The poor chap in Romans 7 ~Still Is~ a servant of sin.

  The verse tells us that
when we were slaves of sin, we were free as to righteousness. And conversely... now that we are slaves to righteousness we are free from sin.  See how simple and easy that is folks?  Not to mention how much Biblical sense it makes!
