                                     COMMENTARY

See folks.. the necessity of a balanced view of doctrine. In this case the balance is achieved by the Universe of Discourse. This is a rule of Logic that says words must be defined within the context of the subject spoken.  A common mistake is to put a Universal meaning on words that are defined by their context. Arminians make this mistake by saying that "All means -All-" which means everybody who ever lived or will live, and end up in the false gospel of atonement for the entire human race including the reprobate. That's a fatal error and anybody who dies believing that will perish! When it says He gave Himself a ransom for -All- [1Tim 2:6] the All must be defined within the universe of discourse, which in this case is the Atonement which was for the elect of God and them only.

The Scriptures declare in several places that there is -None- good.. no not one! Yet here Messiah Himself speaks of a Good man! Contradiction! Right? No not at all. When it says there is none good it is speaking of all natural born men in their unregenerate state. It’s teaching that the doctrine that says "all men are basically good inside" is false. Human nature in its most basic form is wicked and in rebellion against the God who made it! What Messiah is teaching here is the difference between men in their natural unregenerate state and Christians who have been saved and regenerated by the Spirit of God. In that light all passages make perfect sense. No contradiction. So Satan... back to hell you go!
