                                              COMMENTARY

  The wicked use the objection of ‘respecter of persons’ against the doctrine of Election. Election, they say, makes God a ‘respecter of persons’. Such an objection shows that they do not know what it means to be a ‘respecter of persons’. It means to show favoritism based on some inherent quality. But election is not based on anything in the sinner at all. Election is completely unconditional with regard to the creature and is based on nothing in him but only on the sovereign will of God. There ain’t nuttin in the sinner anyways that would ever impress God and move Him to ‘elect’ anyone. By nature we All deserve Hell folks! Scripture teaches that the basis of our election is in Christ. We are chosen "in Christ" so election is based upon the Person and Work of Messiah and not on anything in the sinner. Romans 9:13 further demonstrates that election took place long before the sinner had ever done anything at all, either good or evil. God chose one and not the other in order that His purpose might come to pass according to His election of grace. Grace utterly precludes, nay EXcludes anything at all in the sinner. Therefore election does in no way make God a "respecter of persons".
