COMMENTARY
I confess I have no idea how in the world Covenant Theologians
and other sabbatarians "get around" this text of Scripture folks. For
one thing, can anybody show anywhere in Scripture where a non-Jew was
cut off from his people and put to death for defiling the sabbath?
Duh-h yeah man; The Flood!
In context God is speaking to Moses & the Israelites and no
one else, and here he tells them that they... who they?... Moses and
Israel, not "all mankind"... shall keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy to -you- Moses and Israel. And if you... who? .... Moses
and Israel, do any work or even leave your house,.... Death! And
notice a familiar word here... the word "surely". Now where did we see
that word before? Oh yeah... in Genesis when God told Adam.. "But
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of
it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt -surely- die."
Same Hebrew word folks. And it makes one more very important
appearance, here... "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not
-surely- die:". Same Hebrew word. Now follow closely; when
modern-day sabbatarians desecrate the sabbath and are ~Not~ put to
death, what message are they conveying? Simple. They are saying the
exact same thing Satan said to Eve, "you will not -surely- die!" which was a direct contradiction to
the Words of the Living God... of which God commands that man shall
live by ~Every~ one of His words. So, unless sabbatarians
can either show from Scripture that the sanction of the sabbath is
somehow changed or rescinded, or else follow it and put people who
defile the sabbath to death, then they are taking sides with Satan and
denying the word of God.
