                                                        COMMENTARY

  Surprize everybody...in this verse Peter was addressing ~UNBELIEVERS~ ! That's exactly right. Read the context.

5  And Jews were living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven.
6  But this sound occurring, the multitude came together and were confounded, because they each heard them speaking in his own dialect.
7  And all were amazed and marveled, saying to one another, Behold, are not all these, those speaking, Galileans?
8  And how do we hear   ~~each in our own dialect in which we were born,~~

These were GENTILES folks! Luke goes on to Delineate them!

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those living in Mesopotamia, both Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10  both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the regions of Libya over against Cyrene, and the temporarily residing Romans, ~~~both Jews and proselytes,~~~
11  Cretans and Arabians; in our   *own languages*   we hear them speaking the great deeds of God?

Then when you read Peter's sermon you discovered that these were all UNSAVED people. They hear Peter preaching the Gospel and exclaim...

37  And hearing, they were stabbed in the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,  "Men, brothers, What shall we do?"
38  And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, each of you on the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

So clearly these were all a mixed multitude of UNSAVED Jews and Gentiles! Yet ~Wicked~ Covenant Theologians deceitfully quote verse 39 in such a way as to make us think that Peter was speaking to -Believers- and use the verse to try and "prove" that children of -Believers- are so-called "covenant children". It's an absolute Wicked  twisting of the Scriptures and Peter says elsewhere;

2Pe 3:16  as also in all his epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unsettled pervert, as also they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

The Greek word for "pervert" means;
1)to twist, turn awry
2) to torture, put to the rack
3) metaph. to pervert, of one who wrests or tortures language in a false sense.

This is what Covenant Theology does with the word of God ladies and gentlemen! Their false doctrine is built on a perverted twisting of the Bible!

Even if they try to say they *were*  saved they then have to show that every last one who heard was saved. Otherwise Peter said that the "promise is to you and your children"  to UNsaved people.

The multitude was NOT Jewish! It was a MIXED multitude... see the context above! Presbyterians MANGLE the Passage when they try to quote vs 39 to build their false doctrine of so-called ‘covenant children’. They wrench the verse completely out of its context.. and the tragedy is most people swallow this pill of poison no questions asked. I showed this to one OPC "pastor"¿ and his reply... ‘spare me’! I wonder if that's what he'll say to God at the judgment?!

Peter tells us that the descent of the Holy Spirit, which was the cause of all the commotion that led to his famous sermon, was the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel. One of the major elements of that prophecy was that God would pour out His Spirit upon -All-  flesh, which meant both Jews and Gentiles and that is exactly what was happening here in this passage. So do not let any covenanter bamboozle you with his wicked quotation of verse 39 out of its intended context.

Gill is a joke on this verse. He says these were ‘converted souls’ whereas the passage says clearly they were still UNconverted! Why would an Apostle exhort believers to
"repent and be baptized, each of you in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"?  Clearly that is the Gospel call to repentance to UNBELIEVERS! Yet Covenanters deceive us by trying to make us believe Peter was addressing believers. If ever there was a prime example of twisting the Scriptures folks this is it!

Covenant Theology is Rank Heresy! It not only denies the Bible, it ~Perverts~ it and that's of Satan!
