COMMENTARY
Some modern day eve-and-jelly-kills would re-write this vs to say; He who says, I know him, and does not keep
his commandments, is a carnal christian, who has accepted Jesus as
savior but not as Lord, and will lose a few bags of yo-yos [rewards]
but will still get into Heaven. Others would say... He that has
"accepted jeezis as personal savior"... or has "axed jeeziss into my
heart’ is one who knows Him regardless of what doctrine he
believes... or even if he believes no doctrine at all.
1Tim 4:16 shows the necessity of knowing & believing
correct doctrine or no salvation. The Gospel is Doctrine folks and
Messiah said... Mk 16:15,16 !
In John 17:3 we read; This is eternal life, that they may know
thee the only true God. Here in 1John, John says that knowing God
is a matter of commandment-keeping! Many say but not all who say are!
He who is not living in the light of obedience to Christ has no cause
to claim that he is a Christian and He said "if you love me keep my
commandments".
Hackneyed objection; Can you keep the commandments p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y ? huh ? huh ? Can you ?
Answer. Is there such a thing as IMperfect obedience? NO! Imperfect
obedience is No obedience at all. The Bible nowhere teaches that
God’s people cannot keep the law! Neither does it teach
that they keep it "imperfectly". To the contrary when it speaks
of God’s people keeping His law it says that they do so
-perfectly-. Gen 6:9/17:1 1Ki 8:61/15:14 2Ki 20:3 Job 1:1,8/2:3 Mat 5:48 Jam 1:4 etc.
The Bible declares from cover to cover that God’s people
Kay Eee Eee Pee... they KEEP the commandments.
And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we k-e-e-p His commandments, and we do the things pleasing before Him.
1John 3:22
And when they do they do
so perfectly. Nothing is said of a so-called "imperfect" law-keeping.
Such a notion is from the darkness of the carnal mind.
Can you identify with Hezekiah, Elizabeth, Zechariah and those
in Romans 6 and chapter 3 of this letter? No? Then you are not a
Christian. If you claim you are while you do not keep His commandments,
John says you're a liar & there is no truth in you!
Was the guy in Romans 7:14-25 keeping His commandments?
1John
