COMMENTARY
The problem stated in the last vs was Saying while walking in
darkness. This vs gives the solution and it is not changing what we say
but rather what we do. We must correct our bogus profession not by
changing the words we say but by changing how we act. Except -we-
cannot change anything, unless God Changes us first by Regeneration.
Walking in the light is the exhortation; True Fellowshipping one with
another (and with Christ; context) may then be claimed ; Cleansing of
our sins by His blood is the promise.
No walkee in light... No Fellowship! No walkee in light...
NO BLOOD ! ! What does it mean to walk in the light? It means to
live our lives in the arena of truth & holiness. Rom
8—Mortify 2Cor 7:1 Col 3:1 — It means to deal with
sin. Did Jesus deal with sin?
Moreover seeing as this was mainly for the benefit of heretical
Gnostic thinking, John is saying that it is only the blood of Messiah
that cleanses from sin. The Gnostic heretics claimed that they had no
sin! By such a claim they were declaring that they had no need for the
blood of the Son of God. By that they were rendering an insult to the
redemptive work of Messiah and placing themselves outside the realm of
salvation.
Now.... since Scripture clearly testifies that man shall not
live by bread alone but by -Every- word that proceeds out of the mouth
of God, that means that every word of Scripture is important. In this
verse notice the little word ‘all’. People that talk of the
so-called doctrine of ‘remaining sin’ after one is saved
never read this verse, for it says that the blood of Jesus Christ his
Son cleanses us from -all- sin. This is one place where all
means all. Therefore the notion of so-called ‘remaining
sin’ is a false doctrine not found in the Bible! Search &
see!
Moreover unless one can define the Biblical doctrine of "walking
in the light" as that wherein a person can walk in the light while he
is still sinning at one and the same time, the only other alternative
is that walking in the light means not sinning. So to say that we walk
in the light is to say that we do no sin!
Are you walking in the light?
1John
